Luís Montenegro, the head of the Democratic Alliance (AD), has been appointed Prime Minister of Portugal.

Luís Montenegro, the head of the Democratic Alliance (AD), has been appointed Prime Minister of Portugal. The office of the Portuguese President of the Republic announced that, the Democratic Alliance coalition attained a relative majority (80 seats versus 78 from the Socialist Party). Montenegro, a 51-year-old lawyer and longtime parliamentarian, will succeed the Socialist Party’s Antonio Costa, who held office since 2015 and was forced to resign in November following corruption allegations.
