The National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) has nominated Justice Bhushan Ramakrishna(BR) Gavai, a judge of the Supreme Court of India, as the Chairman of the Supreme Court LegalServices Committee (SCLSC).He succeeds Justice Sanjiv Khanna, the senior most puisne judge of the Supreme court..SCLSC was established under Section 3A of the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987.
The committee aims to provide free and competent legal services to the weaker sections of society
SCLSC consists of a sitting judge of Supreme court as the chairman and 9 members nominated by Chief Justice of India(CJI).
In 2003, he was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Bombay High Court and later became the permanent judge in 2005
