The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) notified Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) rules, 2024. Ministry of Home Affairs will be notifying, the Rules under the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 (CAA-2019). These rules, called the Citizenship (Amendment) Rules, 2024 will enable the persons eligible under CAA-2019 to apply for grant of Indian citizenship. The CAA will be implemented before the elections. These rules will now enable minorities persecuted on religious grounds in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan to acquire citizenship in our nation.


      The Parliament approved the CAA in December 2019, with the Act subsequently getting Presidential assent from then-President Ram Nath Kovind. However, the rules under this law are only now being implemented.
