NASA Unveils X-59 Quiet Supersonic Jet Known as ā€˜Son of Concorde’!

Science and Technology

New York to London in just three and a half hours soon! The aeronautic officials debuted a new X-59 supersonic aircraft which is capable of flying faster than the speed of sound. The 100-foot-long and 30-foot-wide plane was rolled out by NASA and Lockheed Martin on Friday in Palmdale, California. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and Lockheed Martin, a global aerospace and defence company unveiled the X-59 quiet Supersonic Jet, a one-of-a-kind experimental aircraft known as the ā€˜Son of Concorde’.

X-59 Supersonic Jet was revealed at Lockheed Martin’s Skunk Works facility in Palmdale, California, United States of America (USA).

The X-59 is at the center of NASA’s Quiet Supersonic Technology (QueSST) mission that aims to demonstrate the ability to fly supersonic while generating a gentle ā€œsonic thumpā€ without making loud sonic booms.

The X-59 aircraft is estimated to be 99.7 feet long, with a wingspan of 29.5 feet nose that lowers the sonic boom when the jet passes Mach 1.
