Nangolo Mbumba has been sworn in as the interim president of the southern African country of Namibia, after the death of President Hage Geingob.

Nangolo Mbumba has been sworn in as the interim president of the southern African country of Namibia, after the death of President Hage Geingob. Nangolo Mbumba officially becoming the nation's 4th president. Nangolo Mbumba, born on August 15, 1941, had previously served as the second vice president of Namibia since 2018. A dedicated member of the South West Africa People's Organization (SWAPO), Mbumba boasts an extensive career, having led various ministries in Namibia. Geingob, the first prime minister and third president of Namibia, traversed a remarkable journey from an anti-apartheid activist to a statesman of great repute throughout his career.


      Geingob was sworn in as Namibia's president on March 21, 2015, and was re-elected for another five-year term in 2019.

      He served as prime minister from 1990-2002 and 2012-2015, in addition to other key ministerial and leadership roles.
