The ICG was formed in 1977, emerging from the need for a dedicated organization to handle diverse maritime tasks alongside the Indian Navy. Over the years, it has grown into a formidable force, boasting 158 ships and 78 aircrafts. It serves as a day to acknowledge and appreciate the vital role the Indian Coast Guard plays in safeguarding the nation's maritime interests.


      Every year on February 1st, India celebrates the dedication and service of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) with Indian Coast Guard Day.
