Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Housing and Urban Affairs said, CBG Blending Obligation (CBO) will boost the production and consumption of Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) in the country. In a major step towards increasing the use and adoption of CBG, the National Biofuels Coordination Committee (NBCC) chaired by the Union Petroleum Minister yesterday approved the phased mandatory blending of CBG in CNG (transport) and PNG (domestic) segments of CGD. gave permission. The main objective of CBO is to stimulate demand for CBG in the CGD sector, import substitution for Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), saving in foreign exchange, promoting circular economy and helping in achieving the target of net zero emissions etc. Till FY 2024-2025 and mandatory blending obligation will start from FY 2025-26. CBO for FY 2025-26, 2026-27 and 2027-28 will be kept at 1%, 3% and 4% of total CNG/PNG consumption respectively. ​
