9th edition of Mitra Shakti 2023 India-Sri Lanka joint military exercise begins in Pune

The ninth edition of India-Sri Lanka joint military exercise "Mitra Shakti-2023" began in Pune. This military exercise is being conducted from 16 to 29 November 2023. The Indian Army is being represented primarily by 120 contingents of the National Capital Light Infantry Regiment. The Sri Lankan side is represented by soldiers of the 53 Infantry Division. 15 personnel of the Indian Air Force and five personnel of the Sri Lankan Air Force are also participating in the exercise. The objective of the exercise is to jointly rehearse sub-conventional operations under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter. The exercise involves joint coordination during counter-insurgency operations. Both sides will practice tactical operations like destroying objects, search and destroy missions, heliborne operations etc. Apart from this, Army Martial Arts Routine (IDEAL), Combat Reflex Shooting and Yoga are also part of the practice curriculum. Military exercise 'Mitra Shakti' - 2023 will also include the use of helicopters and manned air base equivalents on the coast. ​
