Important Days
National Cancer Awareness Day is observed on 7 November in India every year since 2014 to create public awareness about early detection, prevention and treatment of cancer. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), cancer is the second cause of death worldwide. That represents about 1 in 6 deaths globally. There are 11 lakh new cases of cancer in India every year and most of these cases are detected when the disease has reached an advanced stage. National Cancer Awareness Day was first announced by Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan in September 2014. “Cancer is a large group of diseases that can begin in almost any organ or tissue of the body when abnormal cells grow out of control. Start growing rapidly. They grow beyond their normal boundaries to invade nearby parts of the body and/or spread to other organs. The latter process is called metastasizing and is a leading cause of death from cancer."
