The Russian government has made it easier for Indian citizens to open and operate bank accounts in the country. According to the Russian Embassy in India, from now on accounts in Russian banks can be opened remotely in a 'direct' manner. It advised Indians to approach an Indian bank that has a partnership agreement with the Central Bank of the Russian Federation for guidance. Upon arrival in Russia, it will be possible to immediately obtain a bank card and start financial transactions at a partner Russian bank, which will be especially beneficial for Indian tourists and the 15,000 Indian students studying in the country. The move comes weeks after Moscow announced that Indians can apply for e-visas to enter the country, a sign of growing ties between the two countries.
