National
The new species, which is quite beautiful to look at, has been named Candolemyces albosquamosus – 'albosquamosus' for the white woolly scale-like structures on its pileus or cap. Delicate in structure, the mushroom grows to a height of approximately 58 mm. Candolomyces albosquamosus has honey-yellow cap, white stem, grows up to 58 mm. Its habitats include dead wood or bamboo shoots in natural forest. A small, delicate-looking mushroom with a honey-yellow 'cap' is found in the premises of the Jawaharlal Nehru Tropical Botanical Garden and Research Institute (JNTBGRI) here in Palode. Has been identified as a new species. Once again highlighting the remarkable Western Ghats biodiversity, this discovery also provides new inspiration for the study of the fungal diversity of the region.
