Franz Beckenbauer, Germany’s World Cup Winning Football Player & Manager, Passed Away.

Franz Beckenbauer, widely regarded among the greatest football players of all time, has died at the age of 78. Beckenbauer was captain of the West Germany team that won the World Cup in 1974 and he later led them to the title as a manager once again in 1990. He is one of just three men to have won the World Cup as both player and manager. He also won the European Championship with West Germany in 1972.


      He was nicknamed “Der Kaiser” (“The Emperor”), who invented a new style of play as a central defensive sweeper role or ‘libero’, where he found the most success.

      .He played for Bayern Munich from 1964 to 1977; New York Cosmos from 1977 to 1980 and 1982 to 1983 and Hamburger SV from 1980 to 1932.

      After his retirement 1983, he served as the manager of West Germany team from 1984 to 1990.
