Bharti-backed OneWeb India gets approval for satellite broadband service in India for the first time in the country

Bharti Group-backed satellite internet services group Eutelsat-OneWeb received key approval from the Indian space regulator for the launch of its commercial satellite broadband service in India. OneWeb India, which operates in low Earth orbit, has been nominated for space activity approval. The single-window agency is the first organization to receive authorization from the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Center (IN-SPACE). IN-SPACe, the central space regulatory agency, is tasked with regulation and authorization for space activities in the country. Its approval paves the way for Eutelsat OneWeb to launch commercial connectivity services after the satellite spectrum allocation is approved by the government. OneWeb India has also received in-principle approval to set up and operate two gateways in Gujarat and Tamil Nadu. Which, once launched, will secure the provision of critical high-speed, low-latency Internet connectivity to customers across India.
