Mohali's Deepti Babuta has become the first woman to receive the Dhahan Award, the biggest international literary award for fiction books in the Punjabi language. Babuta received the award for his short story collection, 'Bhukh Ayan Saha Landi Hai' ('Hunger Breathes Like'). A cash prize of 25,000 CAD and a trophy were awarded at a ceremony held at Northview Golf & Country Club in British Columbia, Canada. This is the first time in its 10-year history that the top award has gone to a woman. After receiving the award, Babuta said, “Words are my life. But today I am speechless. This achievement is not mine alone. This is for every woman who starts fighting for her dreams from home. Then, she fights for opportunities in the world and shows that she can succeed. The Dahan Prize was established in 2013 by the Canada India Education Society (CIES) and the University of British Columbia (UBC) to encourage both aspiring and established writers to take their work to a wider, multilingual audience. A platform can be given.
