Indian women's hockey team won the Asian Championship Trophy 2023

Indian women's hockey team became Asian Champions Trophy winners by defeating Japan. The host team defeated Japan 4–0 in the final in Ranchi. Local girl Sangeeta Kumari (17th minute), Neha Goyal (46th minute), Lalremsiami (57th) and Vandana Kataria (60th minute) scored goals as India won the continental title. The hosts started by playing aggressive hockey and soon the Japanese defense Made a difference. Japan were in a dangerous position and Deepika had a great chance but the forward took too long to miss. The deadlock was finally broken when Navneet Kaur made a brilliant run to the top of the Japanese striking circle. She passed to Neha, who passed the ball to Sangeeta and the Jharkhand player headed the ball over the line for her sixth goal of the tournament, much to the delight of the 10,000 spectators. Japan equalized but the goal was disallowed after a referral from India. Captain Savita Punia was brilliant in scoring and saved three consecutive penalty corner (PC) chances. He also saved a penalty stroke in the final quarter.
