Manipur violence Supreme Court hearing highlights: The Supreme Court on Monday resumed hearing related to the ongoing ethnic clashes in Manipur.The Supreme Court resumed hearing on Monday on a batch of petitions in connection with the ongoing ethnic-violence in Manipur. Labelling the investigation into the loss of human lives in the conflict as “lethargic” and “tardy" in the previous hearing, the Supreme Court summoned the director general of police to furnish an explanation in this regard in on Monday's hearing. Activists hold placards during a candlelight vigil while protesting against the central government condemning the recent atrocities on women and violence in Manipur and other issues, in Bengaluru.The top court also demanded the director general of police to furnish records of incident records, FIRs, arrests, and victim statements. It questioned solicitor general (SG) Tushar Mehta, representing the N Biren Singh government, about the two-month delay in FIR registrations in the shocking sexual assault case of two women on May 4, lamenting that the state has seen an “absolute breakdown of constitutional machinery for two months”. On May 3, violent clashes erupted between the dominant Meitei community and the tribal Kukis in a region. The unrest occurred amidst a protest organised in opposition to a high court order proposing to grant scheduled tribe (ST) status to the Meiteis.
