Police Memorial Day is celebrated every year on 21 October. This day remembers the sacrifice of ten policemen who sacrificed their lives while guarding our borders with China in 1959.
Important Days
21 October is celebrated every year as Police Memorial Day. In 1959, 21 October was a tragic day for the Indian police force as 10 CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) personnel were killed in an attack by Chinese PLA troops. The attack took place near the Hot Springs area of Ladakh and the police officers lost their lives in the line of duty. On October 20, 1959, while the CRPF was patrolling the Indo-Tibetan border, three separate units of the 3rd Battalion were attacked in Ladakh. Sent on independent patrol near the Hot Springs area. Its objective was to keep an eye on the India-China border located east of Ladakh. The hot spring was being monitored in Aksai Chin in Ladakh, located at an altitude of 15,000 to 16,000 feet above sea level on the India-Tibet border.
