World Organization for Animal Health approves India's self-declaration of freedom from highly pathogenic avian influenza

National

The World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) has approved India's self-declaration of freedom from bird flu in specific poultry compartments in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. This approval will open new opportunities for Indian poultry in the global market. India is currently the third largest producer of poultry meat in the world. The accreditation by WOAH reflects India's commitment to international biosecurity standards and will enhance the export potential of Indian poultry and poultry products. Bird flu outbreaks in India have caused significant economic losses in the past.
