The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a loan of US$181 million aimed at boosting the quality of urban infrastructure and services, thereby improving urban liveability and mobility in sub-urban areas of Ahmedabad city in Gujarat. According to an ADB press release, Ahmedabad and its peripheral areas have witnessed rapid industrial growth, which has contributed significantly to the economic development of Gujarat. "Ahmedabad and surrounding areas are rapidly growing as industrial hubs, contributing to Gujarat's economic growth. This project will help control urban sprawl," said Sanjay Joshi, ADB's Principal Urban Development Specialist. " It envisions the future of the areas around Ahmedabad city, a planning approach that can be replicated in other states."
