The Defense Ministry signed the mid-life upgrade of "INS Beas" with Kochi-based M/s Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) in New Delhi on October 16, 2023.

The Defense Ministry signed an agreement with Kochi-based M/s Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) for mid-life upgrade and re-powering of "INS Beas" at a total cost of Rs 313.42 crore in New Delhi on October 16, 2023.INS Beas is the first Brahmaputra class frigate to be converted from steam to diesel propulsion. Following completion of the mid-life upgrade and re-powering in 2026, INS Beas will join the active fleet of the Indian Navy with a modern weapon suite and advanced combat capability. The transformational first re-powering project is in line with the maintenance philosophy of the Indian Navy and marks a significant advancement in M/s CSL repair capabilities. The project will involve more than 50 MSMEs and generate employment for more than 3500 personnel. This project will be the proud flag bearer of self-reliant India in line with the Make-in-India initiative of the Government of India.
