A two-day massive coastal security exercise Sagar Kavach 02/23 involving all maritime security agencies was conducted by the Indian Navy from Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Union Territory of Puducherry from 11 to 12 October.

A two-day mega coastal security exercise 'Sagar Kavach' was conducted by the Indian Navy this week involving all maritime security agencies of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. The exercise conducted on Wednesday and Thursday was conducted by the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Eastern. The Naval Command was executed under the aegis of FOCINC (East), which also exercises the authority of the Commander-in-Chief, Coastal Defense (East). , An official press release said the exercise involved around 2,500 personnel from the Indian Navy, Coast Guard, state and union territory administrations, maritime police, fisheries, customs, intelligence agencies, lighthouses, ports and forests. Its objective was to assess the efficacy and robustness of the coastal security system when dealing with "asymmetric threats" emanating from the sea. Indian Navy ships along with assets from the Coast Guard and other coastal security agencies were deployed to enhance surveillance in the area. The exercise witnessed close coordination and synergy among all coastal security stakeholders and lessons learned from the exercise will be disseminated to strengthen the coastal security architecture.
