In an effort to alleviate traffic congestion in Uttarakhand, the Uttarakhand Metro Rail Corporation (UKMRC) has unveiled plans to develop state-of-the-art rapid transit systems in Dehradun, Haridwar, and Rishikesh. India's 1st Neo Metro, will be implemented on two corridors in Dehradun, while Haridwar will witness the introduction of the country's inaugural Pod taxi. The development of ropeways and Pod taxis will be carried out through a public-private partnership (PPP) model, with equal investment from the central and state governments. These initiatives aim to provide a significant boost to eco-friendly and cost-effective public transportation options in the state. The two Neo Metro corridors, spanning a total length of 22.42 kilometers, will connect ISBT to Gandhi Bagh and FRI to Raipur, effectively covering the breadth and length of the city. The Neo Metro trains will have a maximum speed of 70 kmph, with an average speed of 25 kmph. The project has already received approval from the state government.
