International Day of Persons with Disabilities is celebrated every year on 3 December. In 1992, the annual observance of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities was proclaimed by United Nations General Assembly Resolution 47/3. The day was observed with the aim of understanding disability issues and gaining support to ensure that their rights to well-being, dignity and equal opportunities are practiced. The theme of this year's International Day of Persons with Disabilities is – Uniting for, with and by persons with disabilities to protect and achieve the SDGs. "The objective of organizing the day is to promote understanding of disability issues and to mobilize support for the dignity, rights and welfare of persons with disabilities. It also aims to raise awareness of the benefits to be derived from the integration of persons with disabilities. ​
